The story begins in Jodhpur, where a schoolgirl named Deepika is shown visiting the school. The principal invites everyone to DGS Vidya Mandir School and calls Deepika to come on stage to receive the first prize. Deepika wins multiple awards in different categories. Janvi feels jealous of her. The judge gives Deepika his pen, saying she is our country’s future.
Students taunt that the future is very dark. The principal scolds students for degrading someone because of her color. Deepika says she’s proud of her color because it’s all her mother gave her. All students cheer for her as she recites a poem by her mother stating that a person’s character is more important than his/her skin tone. Janvi walks away, burning jealousy while all the students clap for her.
Upon meeting Janvi, Deepika informs her that she has won the prizes and gives her all the trophies. Janvi is happy for Deepika. Shobha, Deepika’s stepmother, taunts her husband about bringing her daughter home. Father prepares. Deepika walks in and tells her father that she is home. Shobha rages against God for showing her sorrows first and asks where her daughter is.
Shobha shows Janvi walking in with trophies. Janvi asks Shobha if Deepika won them all. She performs Janvi’s nazar and says her daughter is the fairest in the entire locality. She criticizes Deepika. He applies kala teeka to Janvi and praises her. He asks Deepika to work hard and achieve success like her sister. Father informs Shobha that she forgot to put a black dot on the nazar.
She challenges her husband to throw Deepika’s mother’s photo out of the house the next day, throwing tantrums and breaking Deepika’s mother’s photos. The father warns her not to gaze at his daughter. Deepika walks out of the bathroom with the soap as Janvi asks her to stay in some corner of the house.
When she hears Deepika’s class teacher praising her for winning prizes, Shobha slaps and humiliates her. Deepika’s father comforts her. After some time, Deepika’s class teacher meets and praises her for using a 100 rupee soap. Upon hearing that, Shobha asks the teacher to bless Janvi. The teacher informs Shobha that Deepika won the prize and advises her to treat both daughters equally. Father taunts Shobha. Shobha is determined to eliminate Deepika as soon as possible.
Deepika and Janvi are taken to a mela by Shobha, who tricked her into leaving her there. Getting scared of not finding her stepmother, Deepika visits a temple and prays to God that she will return to her mother. Panditji holds her hand. A grown-up Deepika can be seen singing and praying in a temple. It is introduced that Dr Chirag treats people well.
The doctor tells his colleagues he will go to a temple and return to patients after returning. As a man of science, Chirag is asked if he believes in religion. Chirag says faith and science should go hand in hand; when an invisible virus troubles them, they remember God. He visits the temple and stands next to Deepika during aarti. He then leaves.
After performing the pooja, Panditji reminds Deepika to ask for something from god since she is known for singing bhajans and serving god. However, Deepika believes that she already has what she needs as Savra/Krishna has blessed her with a dark complexion that many adore. As Panditji brings up how Deepika’s mother abandoned her at a mela 15 years ago, she acknowledges that it was god who sent Panditji to guide her in that difficult moment and chooses not to criticize her mother. Deepika witnesses an old lady collapsing as she completes some tasks and rushes to find water. Fortunately, Panditji offers panchayath, which she sprinkles on the old lady, who then regains consciousness. Chirag notices this kind of act and is impressed by Deepika’s actions.
